Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Congregation: Amen

The Confession and Absolution

Pastor: Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God, Our Father, Beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness.

Our Help is in the name of the Lord.

Congregation: Who made Heaven and Earth.

Pastor: I said I will confess my transgression unto the Lord.

Congregation: And You forgive the iniquity of my sin.

Pastor: Almighty God, our Maker and Redeemer, we poor sinners confess unto You that we are by nature sinful and unclean, and that we have sinned against You by thought, word, and deed. Wherefore we flee for refuge to Your infinite mercy, seeking and

imploring Your grace for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Congregation: O most merciful God, who has given Your only begotten Son to die for us, have mercy upon us and for His sake grant us remission of all our sins; and by the Holy Spirit increase in us true knowledge of You and of Your will and true obedience to Your Word, to the end, that by Your grace we may come to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Pastor: Almighty God our heavenly Father, has had mercy upon us and has given His only Son to die for us and for His sake forgives us all our sins.  To them that believe on His name He giveth the power to become sons of God and has promised them His Holy Spirit. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved. Grant this, Lord, unto us all.

Congregation: Amen.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

We bless you from the house of the Lord.

Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors,

That the King of glory may come in.

Who is this King of glory?

The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle!

Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient Doors

That the King of glory may come in.

Who is this King of glory?

The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory!

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

We bless you from the house of the Lord.

Congregation: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Collect of the Day

Pastor: The Lord be with you.

Congregation: And with thy spirit.

Pastor: Let us Pray:

Almighty and everlasting God, You sent Your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, to take upon Himself our flesh and to suffer death upon the cross. Mercifully grant the we may follow the example of His great humility and patience and be made partakers of His resurrection; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Congregation : Amen.

Old Testament Reading

Isaiah 50:4-9

The Lord God has given me

    the tongue of those who are taught,

that I may know how to sustain with a word

    him who is weary.

Morning by morning he awakens;

    he awakens my ear

    to hear as those who are taught.

5 The Lord God has opened my ear,

    and I was not rebellious;

    I turned not backward.

6 I gave my back to those who strike,

    and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard;

I hid not my face

    from disgrace and spitting.

7 But the Lord God helps me;

    therefore I have not been disgraced;

therefore I have set my face like a flint,

    and I know that I shall not be put to shame.

   He who vindicates me is near.

Who will contend with me?

    Let us stand up together.

Who is my adversary?

    Let him come near to me.

9 Behold, the Lord God helps me;

    who will declare me guilty?

Pastor: This is the Word of the Lord.

Congregation: Glory be to Thee, O Lord.

O come let us fix our eyes on Jesus,

The founder and perfecter of our faith,

Who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame,

And is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Epistle Lesson

Philippians 2:5-11

 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Pastor: This is the Word of the Lord.

Congregation: Glory be to Thee, O Lord.

Gospel Lesson

Pastor: The Holy Gospel According to St. John the 12th chapter.

Congregation: Glory be to Thee, O Lord.

12 The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. 13 So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” 14 And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written,

15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion;

behold, your king is coming,

    sitting on a donkey's colt!”

16 His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. 17 The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. 18 The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him.”

Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord.

Congregation: Praise be to you O Christ.

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

 And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord;

Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified dead and buried; He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Sermon

Prayers of the Church

Almighty and most merciful God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we give You thanks for all Your goodness and kind mercies, especially for the gift of Your dear Son and for the revelation of Your will for us Your children. We ask You so to implant Your Word in us that in good and honest hearts we may keep it and bring forth good spiritual fruit by fulfilling Your holy will.

Most heartily we ask You to rule and govern Your Universal Church, with all its pastors and missionaries that we may be preserved in the pure and true doctrine of Your saving Word, where faith toward You may be strengthened, charity increased in us toward all mankind, and Your kingdom extended. Send forth laborers into Your harvest, and sustain those whom You have sent, that the message of our salvation through Christ’s death and resurrection may be proclaimed to all people throughout the world.

Grant also health and wisdom to all that are in authority, especially to the President and Congress of the United States, the Governor and Legislature of this state, and to all our judges and officials, and give them Your grace to always follow your will, so that righteousness might prevail and wickedness may be punish appropriately, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

May it please You also to turn the hearts of our enemies and foes that they may cease their hostility and be inclined to walk with us in gentleness and in peace.

Heavenly Father, we pray for all who are in trouble, want, sickness, suffering of labor, peril of death, or any other trails and temptations, especially those who are in suffering for Your name’s and Your truth’s sake, comfort with Your Holy Spirit, that they may receive and acknowledge their afflictions as expressions of Your fatherly will.

And although we have deserved Your righteous wraith and mighty punishments, yet, we pray to You o most merciful Father, remember not the sins of our youth or our many wrongdoings, but out of Your unspeakable goodness, grace and mercy defend us from all harm and danger of body and soul. Preserve us from false and heretical doctrine, from war and bloodshed, from diseases and illnesses, from all disasters of fire and water, from hail and storms, from failure of harvest and from famine, from forgetting the mercies that You give to us From Your Son’s death and resurrection, and from a death apart from Your mercy. And in every time of trouble show Yourself a very present Help, through the forgiveness of the all of the sins of the world and eternal life for all who believe in Your Son.

Cause all sustaining fruits of the earth to thrive, that we may enjoy them in due season. Give success to the Christian training of the young, to all lawful occupations on land, air and sea, and to all vocations and calls that are pleasing to you and useful knowledge; and crown them with Your blessing.

Receive, O God, our bodies and souls and all our talents, along with the offerings we bring before You, for Your have purchased us to be Thine own, that we may live unto You.

(Prayer Requests)

These and all other things Your would have us ask of You, O Lord, grant unto us for the sake of the bitter suffering and death of Jesus Christ, Thine only Son, our Lord and Savior, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who are in heaven, hallowed be Thy name;

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; Give us this day our daily bread and

Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory; Forever and ever. Amen.

The Collect for the Word

Pastor: Blessed Lord, who has caused all Holy Scripture to be written for our learning, grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by the patience and comfort of Thy holy Word we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life which Thou hast given us in our Savior Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end.

Congregation: Amen.

The Benediction

Pastor: The Lord bless thee and keep thee

The Lord make His face to shine upon thee and be gracious unto thee, The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee and give thee peace.

Congregation: Amen, Amen, Amen.
